GRAFTED - LUKE'S STORY

Grafted, is known locally for it's innovative work with those who are living with drug and alcohol addiction and mental health related issues. Grafted has a total inclusive policy and accepts people regardless of race, belief, gender or sexual orientation.

As part of it's Christian ministry, the project uses outdoor activities as one way of engaging with people who are regarded as vulnerable and at risk, coming alongside them to enable and encourage them to know Jesus. Paul's wife Elaine is also part of the ministry which has grown around this outreach and which now has a small Christian Community, making up Refresh Community church.

Grafted has taken its name from the book of John chapter 15.

Window of Time is the name given to our current program, aimed at developing leadership and self esteem in chaotic people.

Following on from an Alpha course, Refresh Community Church developed and grew to meet the continuing discipleship needs. More recently and as part of Refresh, Deeper also developed for 14 -19 year olds in the village.

Grafted also helped develop Soulspan - a regular worship based event for young people in the Borders with an aim to release young people to discover what being church is today.

Grafted was also an instrumental partner in setting up Spree, an annual Borders youth event that attracts 300+ young people for a weekend in September.

Core Purpose, vision and values

Grafted is very clear about the Core purpose for which it exists. This is to give hope to those without hope.

Strategic goal for the next five years:

To be a training, mission and ministry base in the Scottish Borders area, from which many effective Christian outreach ministries launch

The 6 Core Values of Grafted Project

1.We will always seek to use the highest quality resources and equipment available. We will always seek to treat every individual with the care and respect we would expect for ourselves.

2.Grafted is called to work primarily with people who are beyond the walls of current expressions of local Church.

3.We will always seek to develop genuine relationships with everyone we work with affirming their value, and encouraging them to reach their full potential.

4.We will Identify, train, inspire and send out leaders for Christian mission. Encourage risk taking and entrepreneurial people to establish fresh expression of Christian community in identified geographical areas of need.

5.Be pioneering in the area of effective youth and community work. (Effective means changing lives for the better long-term.)

6.We seek in all areas of our work to tangibly introduce and lead people to a deeper/intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.
